It spends very little time on the protagonist struggling with her senses or her feelings, whether it’s about other people or the events happening around her.
So glad I did! It took me a lil while to figure out the time and how it was related to the first book since it’d been a while, but it’s the original dragon speakers tale. Since Kara can call birds, the king sends for her to call, not birds, but dragons, because he has sworn to eradicate them. Luckily, Susan has written more sequels and we are always awa This book follows Dragon’s Milk which started it all.
The first book introduced a world with a lot of history that is mentioned in bits and pieces. Kara was a strong heroine, yet sh Books that are back-story, or prequels, are some of the most interesting things to read in my view. Getting to know more about the events that set everything in book 1 in motion made this an enjoyable story in and of itself as well as a helpful companion to Dragon’s Milk.

It is said that a mother dragon lived in that cave, and she nursed young Kara back to life. Like in the first book of the series I enjoyed the strong female lead who grows from an outcast country girl even if her father was a respected landholder to a well-respected, fight for what’s right heroine.
As well as being something of a creature of whim, Kara also seems a rather more passive character than Kaeldra, doubly odd given Fletcher’s project of avoiding non traditional fairy tale roles for female characters, indeed on the one occasion Kara does attempt to strike out on her own she employs a ruse yhe obviously hackneyed it is almost laughable.
She also came away with the ability to communicate with and summon birds, called kenning.
Reading it again as an adult was very rewarding. Fletcher was once more able to create such a strong heroine that is so relatable.
Escaping to the mountains, she stumbles on the dragons’ lair; and although those there fear and despise her for the death, they agree to let her lead them to a warm, isolated place known to Kara’s love, Kazan, a young trader. Fortunately, dragoj these inequities however, Fletcher definitely raises her game towards the book’s ending. Since then, Fitz has wandered the world accompanied only by his wolf and Wit-p I enjoyed this sequel much more than the first book in the series!

You read the first book in a series and it mentions a character in passing, and you are always left wondering, who is that person and what did they do? Trivia About Flight of the Dra A wonderful, exciting book! This book is an imaginative story of Lady Kara Dragon-Sayer. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. I found this book to be much stronger than the book it is a “prequel” to, Dragon’s Milkwhether because it was written later or because it is just a more interesting story, I’m not sure.
This one was better than the first one. Likewise, her inconsistent attitude towards dragons and the King’s intention of dragon hunting made her feel overall rather flaky, especially given her somewhat strange reassessment of matters when she finally realizes that slaying a dragon actually means killing it; my Lady described her as “dense” for this reason. Kara finds friends in Rath, Myrra and Corwyn.
And of course, who can forget Kazan? When she finally remembers the name of the dragon, she summons her. But then, high fantasy need not compute, and there’s a satisfactorily remote, stern, and romantic air here that will please fantasy buffs.
